RWE Innogy and German Pellets today officially inaugurated RWE's biomass-fuelled cogeneration station and the neighbouring pellet plant as part of a site presentation in the Wittgenstein industrial estate. NRW Pellets GmbH is the operator of the pellet plant completed in mid-July. Apart from RWE Innogy Cogen, German Pellets also owns a share of this company. The investment volume of both plants totals approx. € 46 million. Representatives of the Environmental Ministry of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, the Siegen-Wittgenstein district, Zweckverband Region Wittgenstein and of the regional forest industry were among the participants attending the ceremony at Erndtebrück.

RWE today announced that it has signed Cooperation Agreements with the Kurdistan Regional Government in Iraq with the aim of helping it to develop and design its domestic and export gas transportation infrastructure – creating a route to market for Kurdistan’s major gas reserves. The cooperation also foresees the negotiation of gas supply agreements to enable gas from the region to be transported to Turkey and Europe via the Nabucco pipeline. Export revenues would be shared and available to the whole of Iraq and provide much needed support in the reconstruction of the region and the country.

RWE Innogy and ABB have today signed a contract for delivery of underwater cable for the offshore wind farm “Nordsee Ost”. In total, ABB will supply around 63 kilometres of sea cable.

Figures for 2009 have shown that the distribution system operators of RWE Rheinland Westfalen Netz paid approximately EUR 1 billion in feed-in tariffs in accordance with the German Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG). Over two million households were supplied from total electricity fed in of approximately 8.1 billion kilowatt-hours (7.9 billion kWh in the previous year), which was generated by close to 57,000 plants.

RWE Dea will be investing 3.6 billion US-Dollars in the field development in the North Alexandria and West Mediterranean Deep Water concessions – the biggest single investment for the upstream company to date. Together with the Egyptian Petroleum Minister Sameh Fahmy, the Egyptian state-owned company EGPC and the operator BP, RWE Dea signed the relevant agreements, which had previously been approved by the Egyptian Cabinet and the Egyptian Parliament, in Cairo.

RWE Innogy commissioned the first onshore wind farm in Italy in the middle of June. The San Basilio wind farm is situated in Sardinia around 35 km north of the city of Cagliari.

RWE Innogy has received the green light from the Scottish Government to build another hydro- power plant in the United Kingdom. The Cia Aig hydroelectric power station, 3 megawatts of installed capacity, will be sited near Fort William, in the Scottish Highlands. Driven by the fresh water of Loch Arkaig, the new hydropower plant will meet the future electricity requirements of around 1600 households each year. Building is to commence next year, and will take about 18 months.

Michael Neff joined the Management Board of RWE IT GmbH on 1 July 2010. He will take over as the new CIO of the RWE Group from 1 February 2011 and will then also assume the position of Chief Executive Officer of RWE IT GmbH. The appointment of Michael Neff as the future successor to Chittur S. Ramakrishnan was announced at the end of January.
