Conversion of CO2 into synthesis gas
The CO2RRECT project, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, has been initiated by RWE Power together with Siemens, Bayer and several universities and research institutes. The aim of the project is to develop a process for converting CO2 from the power station’s flue gases with hydrogen into synthesis gas, a versatile raw material used by industry. The required hydrogen will be produced using the existing excess supply of renewables. For this purpose, a flexible water electrolysis plant developed by Siemens will start trial operations at the Niederaussem power plant site in the autumn of 2012.
