Conversion of CO2 into synthesis gas

The CO2RRECT project, which was funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, was initiated by RWE Power in collaboration with Siemens, Bayer and several universities and research institutes. The aim of the project was to develop a process for converting CO2 from power stations’ flue gases and hydrogen into synthesis gas, a versatile raw material used by industry (in this context, please see also our Power-to-Gas project). The required hydrogen will be produced using the existing excess supply of renewables. For this purpose, a flexible water electrolysis plant developed by Siemens was tested at the Niederaussem power plant site in the autumn of 2012.
