RWE in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes
![]()
For the thirteenth time in succession, the RWE Group has qualified for inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI). For the period 2011/12, the Group was selected for inclusion in the “Utilities” category of both the worldwide “Dow Jones Sustainability World Index” and the European “Dow Jones Sustainability Europe Index“ . This makes RWE the only German energy supplier to have been included in the DJSI since its inception in 1999. The Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes are compiled on the basis of wide-ranging surveys by Dow Jones Indexes in cooperation with SAM Group. They are recognised worldwide as an important set of indexes for sustainable corporate governance and award the best in class in each category.

Carbon Disclosure Project
RWE has been rated by the Investor Carbon Disclosure Project 2011 among the top companies world-wide in carbon disclosure. During the last years, we have worked on improving our reporting on carbon emissions and climate protection. This has been honoured 2011 by a high carbon disclosure score of 85 points out of 100 compared to our medium score of 67 points in 2010. Nevertheless, RWE has again not qualified for inclusion in the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI) 2011. This requires a disclosure score of above 90 points.
In 2011, for the second time, all companies with a sufficiently high disclosure score received a performance band. The performance band is grouped into six bands from A (leader) to D. RWE achieved a high performance band B, but missed the Carbon Performance Leadership Index (CPLI).
The Carbon Disclosure Project is an alliance of large institutional investors who teamed up with the aim of making companies’ greenhouse gas emissions and climate change strategies transparent for the financial market.

Fourth place in sustainability report rankings
Our sustainability reporting, and especially our efforts in relation to transparency, materiality and trustworthiness, is now acknowledged to be of a very high standard indeed. In the 2009 ranking of the sustainability reports of Germany's 150 largest corporations RWE achieved the fourth best score after BASF, Siemens and BMW. This is the third time running that we have numbered among the top ten. The ranking is carried out every two years by future e.V. and the Berlin-based Institut für ökologische Wirtschaftsforschung gGmbh (Institute for Ecological Economy Research, IOeW). The key themes of the most recent reports, researchers say, are global climate change and the financial crisis.
RWE in the Corporate Rating of oekom research
In its international CR rating 2011, oekom research awarded RWE a rating of C+, the same mark RWE received already in 2008. Although RWE is still among the top fifty percent of the companies rated, its score was not enough for the Prime Standard, which requires a rating of B- or higher.
