RWE numbers among the five leading electricity and gas providers in Europe. Thanks to our expertise in the production of oil, gas and lignite, the construction and operation of conventional and renewable power plants, commodities trading, and the transport and marketing of power and gas, we are active in all stages of the value chain.

More than 70,000 employees supply some 16 million customers with electricity and nearly 8 million customers with gas via our domestic and international associated companies. In the 2010 fiscal year, we generated over EUR 53 billion in revenue groupwide.

Our market

Europe is our market. RWE is the No. 1 power producer in Germany, No. 3 in the Netherlands and No. 3 in the UK. We are continuously expanding our successful position in central and South Eastern Europe.

In addition to running more efficient and environmentally friendly fossil-fuel power plants, renewable energies play a key role in our operations. We have a leading position in energy trading in Europe, and that helps us to position our power plants optimally on the market. With new residential, commercial and industrial products, we respond to changing customer requirements. In whatever we do, climate protection and energy efficiency are becoming increasingly important.

Our service and product portfolio ranges across the entire value chain, from raw materials procurement to sales – and in recent years has undergone rapid change. Individual stages of the value chain have gained in significance within the global energy economy, such as energy trading, whereas others, such as electricity generation, have changed.
