Following the sale of 70% of the consolidated business volume of RWE Umwelt AG on 25 February 2005, RWE has now concluded the disposal of the remaining waste management operations in the regions West, Westphalia, Hesse, East and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania which had been retained by RWE to comply with antitrust regulations. RWE had offered the five regions for sale in a broad-based competitive bidding process regarding business concepts and takeover conditions. The majority holdings of the five regions generate total annual revenues of about € 530 million. The revenue of the associated minority holdings is of a similar order.
The winners of the bidding process are invariably strategic buyers offering a long-term perspective for both the companies and their staff as well as acquisition terms reflecting the value for RWE.
RWE Umwelt region West will be taken over by Stadtwerke Krefeld group, region Westphalia by Lobbe group, Iserlohn, the regions Hesse and East by Fehr group, Lohfelden, and region Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania by ALBA group, Berlin, with retroactive economic effect as from 1 January or 1 February 2005. The parties agreed not to disclose the acquisition prices.
For four of the five regions, the contracts of sale have already been notarised. For the region of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, it is planned to sign the initialed contract of sale with ALBA on 5 October 2005.
