The RWE Group is strengthening its successful gas business at international level. To this end, the Company has extended its gas supply contract with Gazprom export Ltd. for the Czech Republic until 2035. This will ensure supplies to an essential part of the European natural gas market in the long term. The contract provides for the supply of 9 billion cbm annually. With this step, RWE is strengthening security of supply and the continued development of a competitive gas market.

This pressinformation is more than two years oldRWE opposes statement of objections issued by German Federal Cartel Office: "Inclusion of CO2 costs in the price of electricity not market manipulation"

The German Federal Cartel Office has accused RWE of having unlawfully included the costs for CO2 in the electricity price for industry customers between 1 January 2005 and 31 December 2005. RWE today received a statement of objections, is examining the accusations and will respond as required by the end of February.

RWE strongly objects to the view taken by the Federal Cartel Office. Its arguments ignore the basic facts about how prices are determined in a competitive market and disregard fundamental market instruments that are essential for a successful climate policy in Europe.

This pressinformation is more than two years oldRWE Power plans new power plants at Lingen and Ensdorf

RWE's investment offensive for power generation is gaining shape. The company is planning to build a coal-fired twin unit delivering capacity of 1,600 megawatts at the existing site in Ensdorf, Saarland. The planned investment volume is approx. € 2 billion and the plant is due to come onstream in 2012. Another project is currently at the planning stage for the Emsland region. This involves a CCGT power plant (876 megawatts) with a natural gas pipe storage facility located at the existing site in Lingen. The plant is due to come onstream as early as 2009 and requires investments of approx. € 500 million. Construction work will involve a workforce numbering about 3,500 during the building phase. The investment projects still have to be approved by the relevant Supervisory Boards.

RWE is co-operating with Excelerate Energy (Excelerate) in the development of its downstream European LNG business. This complements RWE’s existing plans in the Netherlands where it has reserved a 10% equity stake and a 3 billion m3 per annum LNG regasification capacity position in the GATE project. RWE also has a stake in the Adria LNG project in Croatia.

A total of €750 million is to be invested in a lignite-fired power plant in Visonta, Hungary. Total output will be 400 megawatts, and the open-cast lignite mine at Bükkábrány will expand. The project is subject to approval by the Supervisory Board of power generating utility Mátra, in which RWE Power has a majority 50.9 percent holding. Other major shareholders are the state power company Magyar Villamos Müvek (MVM), which holds 25.5 percent, and EnBW, holding 21.7 percent.
