Retrofitting the gas-fired power plant in Lingen
Four new gas turbines increase the efficiency rating while reducing CO2emissions
RWE Technology has installed four new gas turbines in RWE Power's existing gas-fired power plant at Lingen in Emsland. The new gas turbines have replace the previous turbines from the 70s, increasing the performance of the two power plant units B and C by 130 MW to a total of 950 MW. Through the €200 million project, the overall efficiency rating of the gas units in Lingen has been enhanced from 41 to 46 percent. The two turbines have a high level of flexibility and are thus ideal partners for renewables.
This project presented RWE Technology with a particular challenge: the turbines had to provide significant improvement in the efficiency and flexibility of the units while continuing to meet the unchanged input parameters of the steam boiler plant. Four Rolls Royce Trent 60 WLE turbines were eventually picked for the job. RWE Technology successfully completed the retrofitting on time and within budget. The new turbines they installed will provide a saving of around 45,000 tonnes of CO2 annually for the gas-fired power plant in Lingen.
