Sustainable business practice pays off – for investors, customers, employees and society.
It forms the basis of lasting value creation, reliable customer relationships, attractive jobs and a strong community. This is all indispensable for companies like RWE with a long-term orientation and regional roots.
We can achieve long-term success as a business only if we secure society’s acceptance through responsible action. To do this, we have to engage with our stakeholders’ concerns and expectations and balance these against our own economic interests. Conflicts of interest, in other words, must be acknowledged and convincing solutions found.
We have systematically analysed the various corporate responsibility (CR) challenges we face all along the value chain and have identified ten specific areas for action which in turn define our CR strategy. The CR strategy enables us to elaborate exactly what sustainable and re-sponsible development mean to RWE.
Our CR strategy is fully integrated in all our business areas and all our processes. Our CR management ensures that targets are met and reviews these targets regularly as part of our CR programme. The bed-rock on which all our actions rest is the RWE Code of Conduct, which in turn is based on the principles of the UN Global Compact.
Our annual CR report describes both progress and setbacks in the im-plementation of our CR strategy.
