  • 1We do not report on the allocation of R&D expenses because this relates to information that is included under business secrets.

At the moment, we are not in a position to report on the proportion of the purchasing budget because we do not have the data available. We intend to report on this by 2015.

Data on the total projected demand is not appropriate for an economic system of deregulated markets. For example, we are not responsible for the security of supply in sales as an electricity generator, but only in some regions as a base load supplier. However, since the necessary amounts for this can be purchased in the electricity market, there is no direct link to capacities which RWE has available as a generator.

As far as RWE is concerned, the fuels used are the most important material item. We also recognise the use of biomass here as well. Additional recording of recycling materials is not carried out, because we do not regard them as significant. Hence, the proportion of recycling materials out of total materials is not material as far as we are concerned.

We do not yet report on our indirect consumption of energy because it has not yet been possible for us to record the information from different energy sources. We want to report on this issue in 2013 and we are now reporting indirect CO2 emissions.

We are able to give the dimensions of areas for oil and gas production, and for opencast mining, which are in or next to conservation sites. At the moment, we are in the process of also collecting these data for the routes of transmission lines and we intend to report on this in 2013.

Other environmental effects, apart from emissions, are not relevant to our business.

This indicator is not relevant for the business of RWE.

We report in detail for RWE employees. Reporting these data for employees of our partners is not possible. Reporting is very unlikely in the future, because the partner companies are not obliged to disclose these data. This is because otherwise the company requesting the data could recalculate the price structure.

We cannot yet report details on turnover broken down into categories because these values are not available. We intend to report on this in 2016. We report in our personnel report on the turnover rate for each country. We also report on the age structure and gender-specific employee distribution.

Data protection reasons entailed that the figures on occupational illnesses and the absenteeism rate are not available for RWE employees or for subcontractors.

We do not report on hours for career training but on days for career training. The job specification is much more important for these data than the employee category. The extent of coverage by RWE Learning is 56.7% of employees.

A survey of data on minorities is not permitted in Germany under privacy regulations.

We are not yet able to report on the percentage of rejected suppliers or suppliers classified as having scope for improvement, because these data are not available. We intend to report on this in 2015.

We are not yet able to report on the number of incidents of discrimination because these data are not yet recorded. We want to report on this issue in 2013.

Data cannot be provided for each individual project because of the large number of projects and this information is not material as far as we are concerned. The consultations are usually carried out by the relevant project managers in cooperation with the communication managers of the Group companies.

We only carry out resettlements in the course of lignite extraction. RWE pays full compensation for the residents’ property and any removal costs. During the period under review approximately 500 people were affected.

These measures are significantly determined by statutory regulations in the countries where we are operating. In the conventional area, this is regulated by the Federal Pollution Control Act (Bundesimmissionsschutzsgesetz, BImSchG) in conjunction with the fourth, fifth and ninth directives on implementing the BImSchG or appropriate regulation in the other European countries. The Atomic Energy Act (Atomgesetz) also defines a tight legal framework for the nuclear sector, which prescribes these aspects.

We do not report with classification according to employee category because we have not developed a robust definition on classification. We will attempt to carry this out in the future. We intend to report on this in 2015.

The aspect of safety and health is not material for us, since all aspects of this issue are subject to statutory regulation in Europe and constitute part of company licences.

In the past, we have provided information on the hazards of electricity where we have established that there is a need for this. For example, at schools in Poland. However, we assume that the hazards associated with the use of electricity are well known and that caution is a fixed element in daily life.

The products of RWE are not subject to any marketing prohibition and they are not the subject of public debate.

However, we are unable to report on the number of customers affected by their electricity supply being cut off due to non-payment because these figures have not been recorded. We intend to report on this in 2013.

We cannot yet report the Power outage frequency because these statistics are not recorded. We want to report on this issue in 2015.

Up to now, we have been unable to report on the availability of power stations by energy source and other countries outside Germany, because this is not part of regular reporting. We intend to report on this by 2014.

AR= Annual Report 2012; PR = Personnel Report 2012; CRR2011 = RWE Group CR Report 2011; All core indicators are presented. Some of the numbers are skipped because the additional GRI indicators are not recorded in the index.
A self-assessment we have carried out estimates that the level of compliance with the GRI G3 guidelines is A+. We had this self-assessment checked by the GRI and it was confirmed.
