Oil and gas deposits are frequently found in the pores of rock formations at great depths and pressure. Once a well has been drilled, the natural reservoir pressure forces the oil or gas to flow to the production well and from there to the surface. But after a while, the oil or gas flow has to be helped along by means of state-of-the-art technology.
