RWE tests new energy plants for generation of biogas in the Rhenish region

At the Garzweiler open-cast mine, RWE is planting a total of 160,000 new energy plants on two recultivation areas. Silphium perfoliatum is to be tested as an alternative raw material for the generation of biogas. The aim is to use the plants at RWE’s biogas power stations in Neurath and in future also in Bergheim-Paffendorf and to compare the gas yield and biogas quality with those of other energy plants.more

RWE Innogy receives consent to build the Galloper offshore wind farm off the south east coast of England

The British Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change has issued approval for the construction of the Galloper offshore wind farm off the south east coast of England. The wind farm has been developed in a joint venture between RWE Innogy and the British electric utility Scottish and Southern Energy plc (SSE). It will have an installed capacity of 504 megawatts. The project is located some 27 kilometres off the coast of the English county of Suffolk.more

First turbine successfully installed at Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm off the coast of Wales

The first of a total of 160 wind turbines was successfully installed at the offshore wind farm Gwynt y Môr (Welsh for “wind of the sea”). The wind turbine from Siemens was installed on a monopile foundation approximately twelve kilometres off the coast of North Wales.more

Deadline for strategic Partnership with Republic of Srpska lapsed

In 2011 the Republic of Srpska had tendered a strategic partnership agreement for the joint development of four hydro power plants at the Upper Drina river. RWE Innogy participated in the tender procedure and signed this strategic partnership agreement on 26 September 2012. This agreement was subject to the fulfillment of certain conditions precedent. The deadline for the conditions precedent has lapsed on 24 April 2013.more

RWE Innogy puts sixth Polish wind farm into operation

This week RWE Innogy officially puts its Polish wind farm Nowy Staw into operation. In just ten months, plant manufacturer REpower Systems SE built 19 wind turbines over an area of 15 square kilometres close to the city of Gdansk. The sixth Polish wind farm of RWE Innogy was connected to the grid on schedule with an installed capacity of 39 megawatts (MW) and will supply more than 50,000 Polish households per year with green energy.more

RWE wind farms attract new investors

RWE Innogy can today confirm the successful sale of a 49.9% share in its Rhyl Flats offshore wind farm (Rhyl Flats) and a 41% share in its Little Cheyne Court onshore wind farm. The UK Green Investment Bank (GIB) and Greencoat UK Wind PLC (Greencoat UK Wind), a renewable energy fund listed on the London Stock Exchange, have each acquired a 24.95% stake in Rhyl Flats.more

Studies Commissioned on the Perspectives and Developments of Offshore Wind Energy in Germany

Together with associations and companies in the offshore wind industry, including RWE Innogy, the OFFSHORE WIND ENERGY Foundation has commissioned two studies in an effort to create a strong basis for the current discussion and a meaningful adjustment of the renewable energy act. Both studies will be closely coordinated. The results are to be presented in the summer of 2013.more

Second phase of Thornton Bank offshore wind farm starts operation

Thornton Bank 2 offshore wind farm, located off the Belgian coast, was fully commissioned in January. The second phase of the wind farm consisting of 24 new wind turbines with a total output of 148 megawatts (MW) is now fully in operation and connected to the grid.more

RWE Innogy commissions another two wind farms

This week, RWE Innogy and BMR Windenergie will officially commission the Jüchen wind farm in the Rhine district of Neuss. In only six months, four wind power turbines, each with an installed capacity of 3.4 megawatts (MW), have been built up here on a recultivated site of RWE Power’s Garzweiler opencast mine. Two of the systems will be operated by RWE Innogy, the other two by their cooperation partner, BMR Windenergie. The wind power plant will produce up to 32,500 megawatt-hours of electricity per year, enough to supply approx. 9,300 residential households with climate-friendly energy and to avoid the equivalent of almost 25,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.more
