Strategy

RWE pursues Research and Development projects at all stages in the value-adding chain in regulated and unregulated business. The Research and Development project portfolio is determined by the present and future requirements of our core business, energy.

The aim is clear

All measures must have a demonstrable benefit for the environment and for sparing use of resources, for security of supplies and – not least - for the competitiveness of RWE. Throughout the Group, we measure our projects using uniform yardsticks and bundle the individual competences of our Group companies in joint research tasks.

Depending on the timespan for the results of our Research and Development work to become commercially useable, we divide our projects into three time horizons:

Development of energy technologies

From basics to application

RWE also inputs its expertise into international cooperative projects and is engaged in a constant swap of experience with partners from the worlds of science and industry. For example, we are crucially helping shape the border-crossing work of the European technology platform on zero-emission fossil-fired power plants by providing several experts from the RWE Group.

Since our focus is on application-related Research and Development, our competences are complemented by the profiles geared to the scientific bases of our numerous cooperation partners at universities and public research facilities.

In this way, we  not only ensure the success of our projects, but also support universities and institutes with current research subjects and make a contribution toward qualified, close-to-practice training for junior scientists.
