Water distribution

Whether you live in a valley or on a mountain – open the tap, and you don't expect a dripping trickle, but an eternally gushing spring. On Europe's mainland alone, thirteen million people rely on RWE's distribution network functioning without a glitch – at all times. Thanks to comprehensive investment in its line network, Germany's water sector can now boast that a mere 7% of the water is lost en route through leaks in the pipes. In order to maintain this international top value in the long term, the pipes much be continuously checked to detect any leakage.

Avoiding leakage

Making constant checks is a day-to-day chore at RWE as well. Here, our engineers are supported by modern management systems. To ensure long-term high reliability of the distribution network, RWE develops and trials new technologies and materials which help spot and remedy any damage to the network early on or avoid it in the first place. This investment in research and development and in concrete and continuous remediation are far more than just a compulsory task – the distribution network constitutes an important asset. Current research projects at RWE are exploring the optimization of processes for piping system flushing and rehabilitation.
