German Diversity Day

For the first German Diversity Day, RWE discussed ways towards a stronger establishment of diversity within the corporate culture

For 11 June 2013 the association “Charta der Vielfalt” (Charter of Diversity) has called for the first German Diversity Day. On this day, companies and institutions from all over Germany show how diversity of employees contributes to strengthening their position and to mastering important current sociopolitical issues. As one of the first companies, RWE already signed the Charter of Diversity in 2007 and thereby expressed that the group appreciates the uniqueness of the employees, not least with regard to their gender, intercultural backgrounds or ethnic origin, age, disability, religion or sexual orientation.

In times of structural market changes the topic of diversity has strongly gained importance. Marga Edens, head of the department Corporate Responsibility Group and at the same the Diversity Officer, regards diversity as a central factor of success for the reorientation of the group: “Only if we manage to create a corporate culture which allows for employees’ potential and their diverse talents and experienced backgrounds to be optimally utilized, will we be able to develop innovative products and services and be successful in the long run. For this reason, we are currently working together with many internal experts on a way to sustainably implement an appreciative approach to diversity.”
