RWE is currently building 11 GW of new power generation capacity in Europe which will become operational between 2010 and 2013. Until recently, the future of the European generation market was mainly driven by concerns about tight capacity.
The questions are:
- Are these concerns still justified?
- What has changed since then?
- Are there new challenges?
The RWE Facts & Trends Book explains why the capacity situation in Europe is not yet solved and why the increasing new build of renewable capacity creates new challenges for the market in general and for conventional power plants in particular. We show why it doesn't simply help to add capacity but why one should focus on the quality of the capacity. Flexible power plants which can cope with unpredictable feed-in from renewable sources will be key in the future generation market.
