Solar Thermal Energy
We will also step up our commitment to solar thermal power plants. This fascinating way of generating power focuses the sunlight in parabolic trough collectors. These huge concave mirrors concentrate the solar energy and transfer it to a heat transport medium. Eventually, the thermal energy is transferred to a water or steam cycle. This steam drives a turbine as in a conventional power plant. The connected generator produces electricity. We also intend to take an active part in developing molten-salt reservoirs to store solar energy so as to make power production easier to plan. This would enable us to continue producing power even after sunset. We will keep advancing this technology in cooperation with partners and deploy it in solar thermal power plants with a capacity of up to 100 MW in southern Europe.
