Batsworthy Cross

RWE npower renewables has lodged an appeal following North Devon Council’s refusal of the proposed Batsworthy Cross wind farm planning application.

The proposed 9 turbine wind farm, located in North Devon, would have a total installed capacity of 18 megawatts which is enough clean energy to supply the equivalent of approximately 8,700 homes1.

Despite the Planning Officer’s recommendation to approve the wind farm application and local support for the scheme, planning permission for the proposed wind farm was refused.

Project Developer, Chris Nunn feels it is the right decision to appeal this refusal of planning permission: "Batsworthy Cross is an excellent location for a wind farm and we have good grounds for appeal.”

"We would urge all in favour of the project to get behind the appeal.”

The public inquiry will commence on 12 June 2012 at 10.00am for 10 sitting days.

1. Energy predicted to be generated by the proposal has been calculated using an assumed capacity factor of 26% (DTI Energy Trends UK regional capacity factors 1998-2004), and is based on an installed capacity of 18MW. The energy capture predicted and hence derived homes equivalent or emissions savings figures may change as site specific information is gathered.
Equivalent homes supplied is based on an annual electricity consumption per home of 4700 kWh. This figure is supported by recent domestic electricity consumption data available from The Digest of UK Energy Statistics and household estimates and projections from the UK Statistics Authority.
