Apply for funding

Our criteria

Our Charity Committee has developed a set of criteria to make sure we donate fairly and consistently. It should also help you find out whether your charity or community group is eligible for funding.

Charities and community groups should be one of the following:

  • registered with the Charity Commission, Inland Revenue, or Scottish Registered Charities
  • a CASC members with Inland Revenue, or a local education authority.

Charities and community groups that aren’t registered with these organisations will need to go through rigorous checks by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF).

Charities and community groups applying for funding should ideally be located close to where we work:

  • near Swindon
  • in the North East
  • in Yorkshire
  • in the Midlands
  • near our power stations.

We particularly welcome applications from charities in the education, health and environment sectors, as these are the three foundations of our community programme.

The maximum donation we can give to any charity in one year is £20,000.

We give money towards tangible projects, but we don’t give money to support administration or employee costs.

We only contribute to charities and projects based in the UK, unless in exceptional circumstances.

We don’t fund religious or politically biased charities. We only consider funding animal welfare charities if the charity is a suitable educational resource for children.

We don’t buy advertising space in charitable publications.

We don’t give funding to third-party organisations.
