Climate Cops
Climate Cops SOS
Our npower Climate Cops SOS programme is an annual competition for teams of 11-12 year olds aimed at motivating eco-aware students to turn their passion for the environment into positive action.
By identifying a local environmental issue - their 'Climate Cops SOS' - they could be selected as one of our 100 'green-agers', where they can go on a once in a lifetime journey to develop their communication, community engagement and leadership skills.
In March 2010 schools from across the country attended the final of the competition, hosted by Alistair Campbell.
The first prize was won by students at Selby High School in North Yorkshire for their innovative and original idea to write an eco-themed book for primary school children, inspiring them to be greener. The school was awarded £20,000.
The two runner-up prizes of £10,000 were given to the Commonweal School in Swindon for their project encouraging those in the community to shop locally and the Blue Coat School in Coventry for their recycling project.
The cash prizes take the form of 'green funds' to help the schools implement energy saving or micro-generation measures.
