Goole Fields Wind Farm
RWE npower renewables’ planning application for a 16 turbine wind farm at Goole Fields has been awarded planning permission by East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
Councillors on the planning committee voted unanimously in favour of the planning application at its committee meeting on 8th October.
In 2003 the planning committee voted unanimously in favour of granting planning consent for the wind farm, subject to outstanding aviation issues being resolved. RWE npower renewables has worked with Robin Hood Airport and a developer consortium to resolve these issues and so the proposal was reconsidered by the planning authority.
Project developer Robert Warren said, "We have been working on this proposal for a number of years and are very pleased that councillors on the planning committee have again voted to approve the wind farm.
“Renewable energy technologies such as wind farms are essential to cutting UK carbon emissions and once constructed Goole Fields will make a very substantial contribution towards renewable electricity generation - powering the equivalent of around 15,000 homes¹ with clean energy.
“We will of course continue to work with the local community to keep them informed throughout the next stages of development and as the wind farm is constructed. “
The Goole Fields wind farm site lies on intensively-farmed agricultural land south of the A161, south east of the town of Goole. The wind farm will comprise 16 wind turbines, capable of producing up to 3MW of green power each, giving a maximum output for the wind farm of 48 MW.
Notes
Energy predicted to be generated by the proposal is supported by analysis of wind data monitored in the local area together with correlation to a Met. Office station providing longer term data. This enables a calculation to be made to estimate the average annual energy production for the site. The energy capture predicted and hence derived homes equivalent or emissions savings figures may change as further data are gathered."
Equivalent homes supplied is based on an annual electricity consumption per home of 4700 kWh. This figure is supported by recent domestic electricity consumption data available from The Digest of UK Energy Statistics and household estimates and projections from the UK Statistics Authority.
