Hampole Wind Farm

RWE npower renewables has been awarded planning permission to build a four turbine wind farm on land to the west of the A1, near Doncaster.

Councillors had discussed the possibility of approving the scheme if it was reduced to four turbines at its committee meeting in November, before deferring making a decision.  Following this meeting and discussions with the planning authority, RWE npower renewables decided to reduce the scale of scheme.

Councillors voted unanimously to approve proposals for the four turbine wind farm at its committee meeting on 15th December at The Mansion House in Doncaster.

Joanna Thompson, Principal Developer at RWE npower renewables said: “Councillors at DMBC have made a positive contribution to the development of renewable energy sources by approving this planning application and we are very happy with the decision.

“There is a real and urgent need to meet renewable energy targets and we are pleased to see this scheme approved, even with four turbines.  The wind farm will still produce enough clean energy to meet the needs of thousands of average UK households.“

Notes
1. Equivalent homes supplied is based on an annual electricity consumption per home of 4700 kWh, which is derived from a total UK domestic electricity consumption on 117.589 terawatt-hours (TWh) (The Digest of UK Energy Statistics 2005) and 25.2 million UK households (Mid-year Household Estimates published in 2004 by the Office for National Statistics).

Energy predicted to be generated by the proposal has been calculated using an assumed capacity factor of 26% (DTI Energy Trends UK regional capacity factors 1998-2004), and is based on an installed capacity of between 10 and 15 MW. The energy capture predicted and hence derived homes equivalent or emissions savings figures may change as site specific information is gathered.
