Saxby Wold Wind Farm Proposal
RWE npower renewables has submitted a planning application for Saxby Wold Wind Farm, supported by a range of environmental studies, covering all aspects of the proposal, from noise levels to wildlife.
The wind farm is on a site near the villages of Saxby All Saints, Horkstow, and Bonby in Lincolnshire. We have submitted an application for a wind farm of 18 wind turbines. If constructed the wind farm would make a valuable contribution towards the UK's renewable energy supply, and the Government's current target to supply 15% of the UK's electricity from renewable energy sources by 2015. Onshore wind farms are vital in meeting these challenging targets and helping the UK make its contribution to the European effort to tackle climate change.
The submission of the planning application follows detailed assessments of the site's suitability for a wind farm and is now with North Lincolnshire Council who will, in partnership with the relevant consultees, consider the proposal and make a decision about the wind farm.
The planning application, and accompanying Environmental Statement (ES), for Saxby Wold is available for public viewing at North Lincolnshire Council offices. Copies of the Environmental Statement can also be purchased from npower renewables The ES is a report on a range of environmental impact studies that have been carried out in relation to the wind farm proposal and includes:
- a description of the project
- landscape, visuals and noise
- ecology
- ornithology
- traffic and transport
- cultural heritage.
The ES is a large document and is available on a DVD (price £20 and can be ordered from the address shown in the 'Contact Us section of these web pages).
As one of the UK's leading wind energy companies, RWE npower renewables is committed to providing local residents with information about the project and one of the ways in which we have done this is by organising three public exhibitions which were held in November 2008 where local residents were invited to attend to find out more about the project.
Details about the exhibition dates and venues can be found via the link on the left hand side of this page. An information leaflet is also being sent to more than 6,000 households, within a seven kilometre radius around the wind farm site, informing people about the planning application and giving details about how they can comment on the proposal.
The location of the proposed wind farm site offers many advantages including:
- the site is open and benefits from good wind speeds
- the wind turbines would be positioned on the edge of the escarpment
- the wind turbines would coexist alongside existing farming activities
- the site does not have any landscape or ecological designations.
