Local Benefits

To find out more about our work with communities visit our Community webpages.

RWE npower renewables has delivered a range of community benefits in association with operating wind farms. These measures benefit those communities living closest to each wind farm, and have to date included energy efficiency measures, school education programmes, local event sponsorship, equipment for schools, youth groups and sports clubs and repair work to village halls and other community buildings. We would look to establish such a Community Benefits Package for the Saxby Wold Wind Farm, should planning permission be granted.

As part of the consultation process we will seek the views of local people about the options for community benefit that would be of maximum value to the local community.

Community investment funding provides a valuable long term, sustainable and reliable source of income for the community and region.  It is flexible funding that can address what is really important to communities.  It has the potential to fund large and small projects as well as capital and revenue activities.

Our proposal for Saxby Wold includes a community benefit fund and a wider economic fund to be invested in communities across North Lincolnshire.  It has been estimated that this would total approximately £180,000 per year for the lifetime of the wind farm, usually 25 years. One of the key things local people and businesses have been saying to us is that they would like to see this money used to help provide young people with skills fit for the renewables industry and for businesses working within the renewables industry.
