Project Locations
Sites
The proposed wind farms would be located within the county of Carmarthenshire, between 11km and 20km south / south-west of Lampeter and between 12km and 23km north east of Carmarthen.
The two wind farms within the Brechfa Forest are located on geographically distinct areas of upland plateau. The Brechfa Forest West Wind Farm is centred on the Afon Pib Valley, east of Alltwalis and the Brechfa Forest East Wind Farm around Banc Llywelau, south of Rhydcymerau.
The site is located within an area specifically designated by the Welsh Assembly Government in its Technical Advice Note 8 (TAN 8) as suitable for large scale development of renewable energy schemes.
TAN 8 identifies seven areas across Wales which are suitable for the location of large scale wind farms. Each area, called a Strategic Search Area (SSA), was selected, having regard to a range of factors including whether there are good wind speeds, whether the areas are generally sparsely populated, and whether there were important landscape or ecological designations. Our proposal is in an area called Strategic Search Area G (SSA G) Brechfa Forest.
