The Allt Duine Wind Farm Proposal

RWE npower renewables has identified an area of the Monadhliath Mountains to the north of Kincraig as being potentially suitable for a wind farm. The proposed project, entitled Allt Duine, is approximately 8km from Kingussie.

The site, which covers approximately 507 hectares, and spans across the estates of Balavil, Dunachton, Alvie and Dalraddy, is within the Highland Council's preferred area of development for renewable energy. Given the size of the proposed site it is anticipated that the scheme will have a generation capacity greater than 50MW.

Under Section 36 of the Electricity Act 1989, any proposal to construct, extend or operate an onshore wind farm with a generation capacity in excess of 50 MW requires the consent of Scottish Ministers.

We intend to submit a planning application in late 2010 or early 2011 and are keen to hear people's views on the proposal.

Additional information on the scale and design of the wind farm will be published on this website as it becomes available. We also intend to issue newsletters and hold public exhibitions during 2010.

The wind farm planning application will be accompanied by an Environmental Statement (ES) which will detail the findings of various assessments, including; landscape and visual effects, ecology and hydrology effects, as well as nature conservation designations, archaeological and cultural assessments of the site.
