The Scottish Government granted consent for Black Rock Hydro Scheme in December 2008. The scheme is on the lower catchment of the River Glass, adjacent to Black Rock Gorge in Evanton, Ross-shire.

The development is one of a number of significant projects being promoted by the company in support of Scotland and the UK's commitment to increase the proportion of electricity generated by renewable sources.

The hydroelectric scheme would be capable of generating up to 3.5 megawatts of electricity, producing on average more than 10 gigawatt hours each year- enough to supply the average annual electricity needs of over 2000 households.

The site will be a run of the river scheme, operating only when sufficient water was naturally present in the river at that time.

The development would comprise the following

• a low profile concrete intake weir
• 3.5km of buried pipeline (approximately 1500mm diameter)
• a powerhouse
• underground power cable to nearby existing powerline, with existing overhead powerlines thereafter
