Local Benefits

To find out more about our work with communities visit our Community webpages.

Construction of the hydro scheme presents opportunities for local economic benefit and employment. Whilst we must follow current legislation and go through a competitive tender process for each part of the works, it is normal to expect local suppliers and contractors with appropriate skills to be well placed to win some of the contracts.

Community Benefit Fund

RWE npower renewables has over 15 years experience of delivering funding to communities. In 2010, community investment funds in association with projects we operate invested £645,000 into communities across the UK, with decisions taken by local people.

Community investment funding provides a valuable long term, sustainable and reliable source of income for the local community. It is flexible funding that can address what is really important to communities. It has the potential to fund large and small projects as well as capital and revenue activities.

We know that all of the communities in which we operate are different. We aim to listen to what your community wants and needs and what is important to you and work with you to develop bespoke funding packages that really meet your needs.

Salmon Fishing Rights Gifted

As part of the land leasing arrangements for the scheme, ownership of the salmon fishing rights has come to RWE npower renewables. To enable local people to still enjoy the salmon fishing afforded by the river the fishing rights will be gifted to the local community with no charges being made for the term of the land lease.
