Project Components
Rhyl Flats comprises the following components:
- 25 wind turbines, each with an installed capacity of 3.6MW.
- Turbine hub height is 80 metres (m) and the maximum height to the tip of an upright blade is 134m (both above mean sea level).
- A 74m high meteorological mast was erected in 2002 to collect wind data, and will remain in position during the operation of the wind farm
- Subsea cables used to connect the turbines together and to carry the electricity generated to shore
- Onshore cabling, consisting oft 3 x 33kV circuits from the cable transition pits on the beach at Towyn to the onshore substation. The length of each circuit is just under 2km in length
- Grid connection into a new substation at Towyn, to transfer the power generated into the national electricity network.
