Construction Diary

The Engineer, Procure and Construct (EPC) contract to construct the wind farm was awarded to Nordex UK in February 2007. Nordex UK is also responsible for operating and maintaining the wind farm for its first five years of operational life.

Nordex UK sub-contracted the civil works to RJ McLeod of Dingwall and the electrical works to Scottish Hydro Contracting of Evanton.

The approximate timeline for the different construction phases was as follows:

June 2007

Upgrade Bellmouth site entrance 

June 2007 to August 2007

Form on-site access tracks 

July 2007 to October 2007

Construct new substation including external Caithness flagstone cladding 

July 2007 to October 2007

Construct wind turbine foundations 

November 2007 to December 2007

Deliver wind turbines into Wick Harbour 

December 2007 to January 2008

Erect wind turbines 

November 2007
Grid connection energised

February 2008

First electricity generated!
