Local Community

To find out more about our work with communities visit our Community webpages.
RWE npower renewables offers a range of community benefit packages at our operating onshore and offshore wind farms, these usually benefit those communities living closest to the site.
There are a number of ways of designing and operating these packages which are negotiated locally to meet the specific needs of individual areas. Packages vary, depending on the size, type and geographical make up of local communities.
Community benefit packages have been used to fund a wide variety of activities including community building refurbishments, environmental education programmes, energy efficiency schemes and supporting local groups and organisations.
Bryn Titli Onshore Wind Farm
Community Benefit Fund
In association with the Bryn Titli Onshore Wind Farm, a community fund has been set up to assist local community projects in Rhayader and Llangurig.
The annual fund started at a base level of £5,000, it is index linked each year in line with inflation and will be available throughout the operational life of the wind farm.
Local decisions
The Bryn Titli Wind Farm Community Fund is administered by Rhayader Town Council and St Harmon Community Council, this means that decisions about how the fund is allocated are made by local representatives for the benefit of their own community.
Support for the area
In 2008 18 grants were awarded totalling £6,150, and included:
- Rhayader YMCA - £500 to help decorate the inside of the centre, this was match funded by a £500 donation from the Town Council.
- The Groe Trust - £500 towards the cost of play equipment in the park.
- Rhayader 200 - £200 towards the production costs of Rhayader & District Newsletter.
- Pant-y-Dwr District Short Mat Bowls - £700 towards a new mat.
- Wales Air Ambulance - £300 towards a replacement helicopter to ensure continued provision of the service in this rural area.
A Charitable Trust has also been established with an endowment of £100,000 to support local education and training.
Local economic benefits
The construction of Bryn Titli Wind Farm brought contracts worth over £2.75 million to Welsh companies and it continues to inject around £150,000 per year into the local economy through rents and maintenance.
