Wellbeing

We believe that being emotionally fit is just as essential as being physically fit. Improving wellbeing is personal to each one of us.  Our wellbeing programme is deliberately non-prescriptive – we do not preach, teach or instruct, but raise awareness, invite change and provide the means for change for those who are ready.

With the support of a network of champions across the business, we have promoted healthy eating and fitness and have also run programmes for people who wanted to quit smoking. Our walking and running clubs are popular and we organise wellbeing roadshows across the business.

We’ve also been involved in shaping Business Action on Health, a Business in the Community campaign which highlights the business benefits of better health at work.

Measuring and monitoring wellbeing

Measuring wellbeing isn’t easy. A lot of it is subjective – like a person’s work/life balance or their opportunities for promotion and training. But that is not a reason not to try.

Through our involvement in Business Action on Health, we remain committed to developing a tool that allows all businesses to measure the health and wellbeing of their staff. This in turn will help build the business case for promoting physical activity among employees and enable best practice to be shared across companies.
