Community Involvement Policy

  • RWE npower renewables is dedicated to generating electricity using sustainable energy resources. The renewable energy sites we operate have a long history of making positive environmental and social contributions to their local communities.
  • At RWE npower renewables we recognise our responsibility towards the communities in which we operate and we are committed to continuously improving our performance in this area. Our community investment programme is designed to support sustainable development of communities, respond to their needs and develop trust within the areas we operate.
  • We recognise that our operations have the potential to impact negatively on local residents and we aim to keep this to a minimum. Together with our parent company, we are committed to meeting the requirements of the UN global compact.

To achieve this we will: -

  1. Set clear objectives and targets for Community Involvement in line with our parent company RWE Innogy.
  2. Regularly report our Corporate Community Involvement performance to RWE npower renewables' UK Management team and RWE Innogy.
  3. Adopt high standard of reporting.
  4. Engage in internal and external stakeholder dialogue to review the scope and impact of our community involvement programme.
  5. Ensure that the impact on the community is taken into consideration when making business decisions.
  6. Implement a programme of educational activities to support schools and other stakeholders.
  7. Encourage and recognise the value of employee volunteering and actively encourage this activity during work hours as part of personal and team development.
  8. Reward our employees' contribution to the wider community through the Match Funding Scheme.
  9. Involve employees in the development of fundraising activities.
  10. Support charity and community groups with financial and / or 'in kind' donations. All applications for support will be channelled through RWE npower renewables' Charity Committee or our regional offices.
  11. Develop Community Benefit Packages around our renewable energy sites, specifically tailored to meet the individual needs of the community.
