Renewables

In our current CDM/JI portfolio, renewable projects are an important part. Our focus is on hydropower, wind and biomass. Here, we are benefiting from the experience acquired by the Group, which has taken the competencies and power plants in the area of renewables and bundled these in RWE Innogy.

RWE Innogy's aim is the rapid expansion of renewables in Europe, with the focus on wind farms both on- and off-shore, but also on hydropower plants and biomass.

RWE was using hydropower as far back as 1906 and has been a crucial force in its expansion.

At present, RWE is operating 44 run-of-river power plants with a capacity of some 280 MW. Every year, these power stations generate about 1.1 billion kilowatt hours of electricity – equivalent to the annual power requirements of some 300,000 households.
