Benefits
· Every year, Atlantic Array Offshore Wind Farm would prevent the release of hundreds of thousands of tonnes of polluting carbon dioxide gas.
· The development of Atlantic Array, and other proposed offshore wind farms, presents an exciting opportunity for the growth of a new UK industry which has the potential to create thousands of jobs.
· Atlantic Array would also contribute to the UK’s security of supply for electricity
Employment and contracts
Construction of offshore wind farms presents opportunities for local economic benefit and employment. Whilst we follow current legislation and go through a competitive tender process for each part of the works required, it is normal to expect local suppliers and contractors with appropriate skills to be well placed to win some of the contracts.
We are currently undertaking a detailed study to understand the likely number of jobs that could be created as a result of Atlantic Array Wind Farm. The results of the study will be detailed in the Environmental Statement which will be submitted with our planning application. Current estimations suggest that 3000 people would be employed during the construction phase of the wind farm through all levels of the supply chain. In addition, around 200 full time positions would be created in order to maintain the wind farm over it’s operational life of 25 years.
As a responsible developer, with a commitment to the regions in which we operate, we want to work with UK businesses to identify the opportunities that will emerge across all supply chains, linked to the Atlantic Array development.

Community benefits
Getting involved in the communities in which RWE npower renewables operates is key to the success of our business. For example:
Each year RWE npower renewables makes a number of donations to charities and community groups, usually operating around our offices.
Our pound for pound match-funding scheme matches the contribution our employees make to their local community through their fundraising efforts.
Staff are encouraged to take time out of the working week to get involved in volunteering projects.
We have developed an education program to help people understand more about how renewable energy technologies work, why we need them and how they can contribute to the UK’s future energy needs.
We welcome your views on how RWE npower renewables could work with the community. See the contact us tab to the right of this page.
