Willington - local community

A new power station would represent a long-term commitment to Willington and the surrounding area. Through links with local authorities, environmental groups and educational establishments, RWE npower would play an important role in the community.

Through RWE npower’s Community Fund, Willington Power Station would provide support for a variety of local initiatives that fit our three key themes of education, environment and health.

In addition, a Local Liaison Committee would be formed to enable local community representatives to meet with the project team and discuss the construction and operation of the power station.

A new power station would make a significant economic contribution to the local area. The construction of the proposed power station would involve a workforce of up to 2,000 and once operational, up to 100 long-term, high quality jobs would be created at the plant.

A new power station would be a significant investment, costing around £1 billion to construct and it is estimated that, once in operation, it could bring a long-term benefit to the local economy of around £10 million each year.
