RWE AG today announced that it has taken the final step to fully divest its stake in the US water and wastewater company American Water Works Company, Inc. The underwriters of the public offering of American Water common stock exercised in full their option ("greenshoe") to purchase up to 3.7 million additional shares.

During the first nine months of fiscal 2009, RWE’s electricity and gas operations proved robust, even during the economic crisis, producing solid results in most business divisions. However, declining oil prices and a disappointing UK earnings situation took their toll. Despite this, RWE confirms its outlook for the year as a whole. Excluding Essent, operating result and recurrent net income will be in the order of the previous year.

RWE and its Turkish joint venture partner Turcas have signed the construction agreement for the planned 775-megawatt combined cycle gas turbine plant in Denizli in the west of Turkey. RWE holds a 70% share in this joint venture. The Greek power plant builders Metka are responsible for constructing the plant and major components such as gas and steam turbines will be supplied by Siemens. Construction is to start in 2010 and the power plant should be commissioned at the end of 2012 if all goes according to plan.

On 14 October 2009, the European Commission officially confirmed that the Commission’s sector inquiry investigation against RWE relating to its electricity business has now been closed. The investigation concerning RWE’s gas business had already been closed in March 2009.

RWE AG / RWE Polska announced today that at the moment, RWE will not place a binding offer to purchase shares in the Polish energy company Enea. Following careful analysis, RWE concluded that its potential offer would not match current market expectations.
