Working in partnership

RWE npower is committed to partnering with other energy suppliers, technology providers, communities and unions to create the best, safest and most effective schemes to deliver the secure power we will need for the future.

We have formed a joint venture with E.ON UK for new nuclear development in the UK. The joint venture, Horizon Nuclear Power, has secured land at Wylfa, on Anglesey, and Oldbury, in Gloucestershire, which was sold for nuclear development by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority in April 2009. Our objective is to license, construct and operate around 6GW of new nuclear build, with the first station coming online around the end of the decade.

In order to generate around 6GW of energy many billions of pounds will have to be invested in new infrastructure. The companies involved must also have an extremely high level of experience of nuclear generation. That is why we are working with E.ON which, like RWE, has an extremely strong track record of building and managing nuclear power stations. Together, RWE and E.ON have stakes in 23 nuclear reactors across Europe.

RWE Power International alone has a pool of experts in the UK and Germany giving us access to over 20,000 man-years of experience gained on over 80,000 MW of various power plant types. Partnering with E.ON enables us to utilise an even broader range of skills and expertise.

We have an excellent track record of partnering with other companies both in the UK and internationally. In Germany, we have substantial joint ventures with E.ON at two of our nuclear plants as well as Vattenfall Europe, Steag and E.ON at two of our coal-fired plants.
