Investment benefits
In the UK, the nuclear industry currently employs over 40,000 people, with more than 40,000 further jobs created by the investment, research and development the industry brings with it.
RWE already employs over 13,000 people in the UK, including over 2,000 directly involved in power generation. We are committed to working with local authorities, organisations and communities to maximise the local benefits of jobs, training and investment.
RWE is proposing to invest in around 6GW of new nuclear generation. 6GW of nuclear new build is equivalent to building around 16GW of wind power or four new gas power stations. This investment will generate significant opportunities including potentially in excess of 11,000 new jobs in total. We estimate this could include:
- around 5-800 permanent jobs at each 3GW site, plus hundreds of additional jobs in the local community
- tens of millions of pounds injected every year into the local economies once the stations are up and running
- up to 5,000 construction jobs created at each 3GW site over the nine year construction period.
