Lisa-A, a 4-legged jack-up barge, commenced installation of the wind turbines on top of the 25 existing foundation piles.
Turbine installation started on 17 April 2009 and the first turbine was completed on 21 Apri 2009.
To construct a turbine, Lisa-A, loaded with the components, manoeuvred alongside the appropriate foundation, lowered its legs to the sea bed and then started to raise itself hydraulically i.e. jack up. Using the onboard crane, the turbine tower was lifted into place followed by the nacelle - the 'box' which sits on top of the tower containing the generator, the hub - the cone-shaped piece on the front of the turbine, and the 3 blades.
Construction overview - May 2009
The four-legged jack-up barge Lisa-A is continuing installation of the wind turbines on top of the existing 25 foundation piles. The barge Discoverer has arrived on site and is installing the inter-array cabling - the network of cables buried under the seabed which link the individual wind turbines together.
Construction overview - June 2009
Jack-up barge Lisa-A has installed nine of the 25 wind turbines.
Cable-laying barge Discoverer continues to install the inter-turbine array - the network of cables buried under the seabed which links the individual wind turbines together.
The substation at Towyn is complete.
The grid connection has been made and the substation is now ready to receive power from the wind farm.
