Epe H- Gas

Gronau-Epe – or Epe for short – is one of the biggest cavern fields in the world and the location of two gas storage facilities (high and low calorific gas) of RWE Gasspeicher GmbH.

Originally a salt deposit with ideal qualities in terms of geology and rock mechanics, Epe is particularly suited for the construction of storage caverns. However, what makes Epe one of the most attractive storage facilities in Europe is not just its geology, but also its unique location on the German-Dutch border and its close proximity to the big long-distance gas pipelines.

The Epe H-Gas storage facility currently has a working gas volume of about 0.5 billion m3 and is connected to the Thyssengas pipeline system in the market area of NetConnect Germany (NCG).
