Seismic
Seismic surveys conducted with the use of sophisticated technology and powerful computers allow us to obtain a precise image of the subsurface rock formations from the earth`s surface down to depths of several thousand metres. These surveys are conducted by generating and transmitting sound waves underground from an energy source (vibrator, explosive charges and air guns) and recording the echoes reflected from rock formation interfaces at the surface using geophones. This technology is able to determine the location of rock formations and traps that may contain oil or natural gas accumulations. Suitable drilling locations are then proposed.
