RWE Supply & Trading Switzerland’s Emissions Group sources carbon credits from around the globe and optimises emissions assets both for our own needs and those of our customers.

Emission markets
There are two markets for carbon emissions offsets – the well established compliance market, mandated by law, and the voluntary market, where demand is driven by corporations and individuals.
Our broad experience in both the compliance and voluntary markets allows us to structure complex deals that meet the requirements of our clients and helps us to provide products, expertise and services related to their needs.

Internal initiatives
We are committed to compensating for our impact on the environment even beyond the marketplace.
In addition to offsetting the electricity consumption in our offices in the Netherlands and the fuel use of our Dutch car fleet, since January 2009 we also offset all business flights for Geneva-based employees. These emissions are offset using Gold Standard Voluntary Emissions (GS VERs). A total of 959 tons of CO2 were offset for emission occurred in 2009.
