VCU hydro project Dongliuxi China
The Dongliuxi Erji Hydropower Project is situated on the middle reach of the Dongliuxi River, a mountainous area in the Hubei Province. The Project is a diversion-type hydropower plant with total installed capacity of 12.6 MW. The project feeds in approximately 46 GWh of electricity per year to the Hubei power grid.
- Creating both short-term and long-term employment opportunities for the local population during construction and operation
- Contribute to local economy development by providing electricity to meet the increasing energy demand
- Fulfil the increasing demand of energy by local industries
This project is registered as a small scale Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project as of 27 October 2008, with registration number 1960. The emissions reductions occurred between the start of operations and the CDM registration date are claimed as Voluntary Carbon Units (VCUs) under the Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS).
The baseline was determined by the approved methodology AMS-I.D. “Grid connected renewable electricity generation” (version 12). The baseline was validated by accredited designed operational entity SGS. The VCUs are currently under verification by SGS.
The additionality is demonstrated using the “CDM Tool for Additionality”. The barrier analysis method was chosen and was validated by SGS.
Why we purchased it?
The project was approved under the UN CDM, which ensures rigour in the validation, approval and registration process. Vintages prior to CDM crediting period were additionally screened against the VCS by the verifier. We also purchased Certified Emission Reductions from this project for later vintages, since we are project participant in the small scale CDM project.
