Fawley Power Station

In June 2011, we announced our decision to investigate the possibility of developing a new distillate oil-fired open cycle gas turbine (OCGT) plant at our existing site at Fawley, Hampshire.

We have discussed this proposal with a range of stakeholders and announced plans to undertake a public consultation to seek communities’ views on the potential development.

At the same time, we have been considering a range of options for the future of the Fawley site as a whole, and, as a result, we have decided not to progress the Fawley Oil-Fired Reserve Plant proposals at present.

Given the Fawley site’s existing connection to the national electricity grid and its proximity to areas of high electricity demand, we believe there is a strong case for continuing to deliver power generation from the site, which is why we are giving careful consideration to the site’s future.
