RWE talks with 60 experts from 15 nations about the integration of renewable energies

The division of research and development of RWE AG arranged in cooperation with the international energy research organisation IERE a workshop about technologies for the integration of Renewable Energies on May 24th to 26th 2011 in Düsseldorf. Members of IERE, with its headquarter in Japan, are leading utilities and supplier companies from around the world.
More than 60 participants from 15 nations took the opportunity to discuss on the two days workshop the challenges and chances of the integration of Renewable Energies into the electricity supply system. Presentations of the current developments were given by leading technology experts in sessions about flexible power plants, energy storage and smart energy.
The linkage between IT and energy technologies was discussed as general cross sectoral issue.
The presentations provided not only practical examples of technical solutions which are available on the market already, but also explained research projects which demonstrate new storage opportunities and other approaches for systems integration.
It could also be shown that clear, international and political energy strategies, a consistent regulatory framework and public acceptance are indispensable for the development of Renewable Energies beside all technical aspects.
The fruitful discussions of the workshop succeeded in many subsequent networking meetings of participants for further evaluations regarding the transferability of the different national approaches.
Practical issues were not missed out: Participants of the workshop experienced energy research on the excursion to the coal innovation centre of RWE Power AG in Niederaussem.
