Gas-Fired Power Plants & District Heating
Today, natural gas is a cornerstone of Germany’s primary energy supply and will grow in importance, say experts.
RWE Power also operates natural gas-fired power plants in Germany – the combined heat and power plant (CHP) at Bochum/Dortmund, the gas-based Emsland power plant in Lingen, the Gersteinwerk plant near Werne, and several customer-owned power stations. In the provision of district heating, too, we were quick off the mark and will continue to use our long years of experience gained specifically in extracting heat from large-scale power plants.
In implementing customized solutions, we are regarded as competent partners of many years’ standing. In Germany, RWE Power is the leading provider of customer-owned power plants, operating power stations for major industrial companies like BASF in Ludwigshafen, Hoechst near Frankfurt, Bayer in Dormagen and the steel mills of Krupp-Mannesmann and ThyssenKrupp Stahl in Duisburg. For iron and steel production, our plants use the by-product blast furnace gas.
For the chemical industry, we operate modern combined-cycle gas turbine plants (CCGT plants). They have an efficiency of up to 87 per cent and, compared with legacy systems, avoid carbon dioxide emissions of more than 8 million tons, thus making a contribution toward climate protecting power generation.
