Coal-based power generation will remain indispensable in the future
Reliable and affordable energy supplies are among the biggest challenges ahead. To meet this challenge, the German Federal Government favours a broad-based energy mix in its climate policy. Coal will remain a vital part of this energy mix as renewable energies will not be able to replace this economically efficient energy source in the foreseeable future.
In view of current climate trends it is therefore absolutely necessary to step up research for climate-friendly technologies for coal-based power generation. With the development of the IGCC-CCS power plant with CO2 capture and storage, RWE plans to make a valuable contribution.
