RWE Innogy invests in second wind farm in Italy

RWE Innogy is investing in its second onshore wind farm in Italy. The Ururi wind farm with a capacity of 26 MW will be built approx. 20 km southeast of the coast town of Termoli in the region of Molise. The Ururi wind farm is due to be commissioned by the end of this year. The total of 13 wind turbines of the two megawatt class will be supplied by the Danish plant vendor Vestas. The investment in the wind farm will be made jointly by RWE Innogy Italia (51%) and Fri-El Green Power S.p.A. (49%).more

REpower and RWE Innogy sign contract for about 295 MW for offshore wind farm off Helgoland

REpower Systems AG (WKN 617703) and the RWE project company for “Nordsee Ost” have concluded a contract on the delivery of 48 offshore wind turbines. The turbines of the type REpower 6M are based on the proven technology of the 5M range, have a total capacity of approx. 295 megawatts and are intended for the Nordsee Ost offshore wind farm, due to be built in the German Bight between 2011 and 2013. The first wind turbines should start running mid year 2012. The wind farm will be situated about 22 miles (35 km) north of the island of Helgoland, at a depth of 22 to 25 meters.more

RWE Innogy builds world’s largest pellet factory in Georgia / United States

RWE Innogy is to build a factory to produce biomass pellets in the southern part of the US state of Georgia. The plant will have an annual production capacity of 750,000 tonnes, making it the biggest and most modern of its type in the world. The project will be carried out in collaboration with BMC Management AB, which specialises in the development of biomass manufacturing solutions and is based in Sweden. The pellets will be used in pure biomass power plants as well as for the co-firing of coal and biomass. The pellets plant is due to take up operation in 2011. The total investment volume amounts to approx. €120 million.more

RWE Innogy Cogen and German Pellets together laid the foundation stone today in the Wittgenstein industrial estate area for a wood pellet production plant. The investor is NRW Pellets GmbH based in Erndtebrück which is jointly owned by RWE and German Pellets with shares of 90 percent and 10 percent respectively. The thermal energy required for the produc-tion of the pellets will be supplied by RWE's neighbouring biomass-fuelled cogeneration station. The capital expenditure for the pellet plant totals about € 21 million.more

As part of its venture capital activities, RWE Innogy is acquiring a minority share in Stirling DK ApS, a Danish manufacturer of distributed cogeneration systems which – based on a Stirling engine – can for the first time be fueled by solid biomass for energy generation. Moreover, the company is investing in the Swedish technology firm Mantex AB, which has developed an automated, continuous method to determine biomass moisture concentration. As a result, RWE Innogy's venture capital portfolio grows to a total of six companies with an investment volume of over € 35 million.more

RWE Innogy has set up a joint venture with Daldrup & Söhne AG in Ascheberg today. Its purpose is to develop, plan and construct a range of geothermal power stations. The first step of the joint venture will be to develop RWE Innogy’s existing deep geothermal drilling areas – for which permits have already been obtained – and to apply for further permits. RWE Innogy expands wind farm portfolio in Spain

Through its Spanish subsidiary Agrupació Energías Renovables S.A.U. (AERSA), RWE Innogy GmbH has acquired a 23.75 percent stake in the Spanish wind farm operator, Explotaciones Eólicas de Aldehuelas, S.L. With this acquisition, RWE Innogy increased its overall share of the company to 45 percent. Explotaciones Eólicas de Aldehuelas operates a wind farm with an installed capacity of 47.2 megawatts in the Spanish province of Castile-Léon near the city of Soria. RWE Innogy is taking over the shares of the wind farm developer Preneal which is based in Madrid.more

RWE Innogy plans to build first open-sea wind farm, Innogy Nordsee 1, off the German coast

RWE Innogy today announced that it has acquired the project company ENOVA Energieanlagen GmbH, which is part of the ENOVA Group. This acquisition includes the rights to the offshore wind project North Sea Windpower 3 (NSWP3). Following the acquisition, the wind farm will be renamed Innogy Nordsee 1. Upon approval from the authorities, this will be the largest planned offshore wind farm off the German coast with an anticipated 960 megawatts capacity. It is to be built 40 kilometres north of the North Sea island of Juist, with a area of around 150 km2.more

Overall, RWE Innogy will invest approx. € 260 million in this project. Consent for the power plant has already been granted and first preparations for construction will be started shortly.more

RWE Innogy builds biogas plant in Saxony-Anhalt

RWE Innogy is going to build a biogas plant with a thermal capacity of approx. 6.5 megawatts in the municipality of Güterglück in the state of Saxony-Anhalt. From the summer of 2009, the site is to produce biogas which will be processed to meet natural gas specifications and fed into the local natural gas network. The general contractor for the construction of the biogas plant is Hese Biogas GmbH in Gelsenkirchen, a company of the Schmack Biogas group. RWE Innogy lays the foundation stone today for a biomass-fired combined heat and power (CHP) plant. Building can now begin at Wittgenstein inter-municipal industry park, in the district of Siegen-Wittgenstein. Developer of the plant is the Dortmund company RWE Innogy Cogen GmbH, a subsidiary of RWE Innogy. The plant's rated output will be around 30 MW of heat and 8 MW of electricity, and production should commence in autumn 2009. The project represents an investment of around EUR 25 million. more

RWE Innogy invests in technology for producing biocoal pellets

RWE Innogy has acquired a 25% share in the Dutch start-up company Topell. The company has developed a ground-breaking process for converting biomass into biocoal pellets and holds the worldwide usage license. Together with the company, the aim is to build the first commercial plant in the Netherlands for producing biocoal pellets. The plant is planned to be realized in 2009. Biocoal pellets have a very high energy density as well as significantly improved product properties and can be burned together with coal in conventional power plants (co-firing).more

RWE Innogy enters Italian renewable energy market

The newly founded company RWE Innogy Italia is forming a joint venture with the Italian developer and renewable energy power plant operator Fri-El Green Power S.p.A., based in Bolzano, to jointly develop wind and biomass projects in Italy. RWE Innogy Italia and Fri-El Green Power each hold a 50 percent share in the development company Fri-El S.p.A. Construction of the offshore wind farm Rhyl Flats off the Welsh coast is progressing. At the weekend, the foundation for the first turbine was successfully laid on the sea bed at a depth of around 15 meters. RWE Innogy has submitted a planning application to the relevant authorities for one of the world's first wave power stations off the Scottish coast. two wind farms in Poland

RWE Innogy awarded contracts to Siemens Energy for 33 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 2.3 MW, which will be erected in Poland. The wind turbines are to be erected as part of the projects Suwalki in Masuria and Tychowo in Western Pomerania and are due to come on stream by autumn 2009. The combined contract volume for Siemens totals approx. € 100 million.more

RWE Innogy creates fuel-wood plantations for energy

RWE intends to further extend its biomass activities and in particular the use of wood as fuel in cogeneration power stations. To support this strategy, RWE Innogy Cogen GmbH, a subsidiary of RWE Innogy, signed a contract with the renowned forest tree nursery P&P, which is based in Eitelborn, Germany. The agreement forms the basis for planting up to 10,000 hectares of fuel-wood plantations in Germany over the next four years.more

RWE Innogy acquires 300 MW wind farm projects in Hungary

RWE Innogy GmbH, Essen, has acquired a series of wind farm projects in western Hungary, in a major deal with project developer Aufwind Schmack GmbH, Regensburg. The projects have already received initial planning permission and will deliver a total volume of around 300 MW of power. The final construction permits for the schemes are expected later in 2008. The deal will also see Aufwind Schmack’s local project development company, AET Kft., transferred to RWE Innogy’s control. more

REpower and RWE Innogy agree on negotiations for framework agreements for up to 1,900 megawatts

RWE Innogy and the REpower Systems Group today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which provides for the negotiation of framework agreements with a volume of up to 1,900 megawatts. The Executive Board of RWE AG, Essen, yesterday reached important decisions on the personnel to be in charge of RWE Innogy, the Group’s new renewables company. In addition to Prof. Dr. Fritz Vahrenholt, who was appointed as head of the company in November, the management team will comprise Dr. Hans Buenting and Kevin McCullough.
