Hydropower stations in Germany

Hydropower has a long tradition in Germany. For example, RWE has been using power from rivers to generate electricity for over 100 years. Today, RWE Innogy operates 45 hydropower plants in Germany, such as on the Moselle, the Ruhr and the Saar. These produce about 1.4 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity each year. Theoretically, they can supply about 400,000 households with clean, environmentally friendly electricity. Most of the plants operate fully automatically, monitored by the central control stations in Bernkastel and Herdecke.
