RWE Innogy was launched with 1,100 megawatts (MW) in February 2008. This good starting position is being extended quickly. At present, we already operate a power plant capacity of around 2,375 megawatts based on wind power, biomass, hydroelectric power and new technologies.
Our mission statement and our corporate goals clearly define our action: We are trusted leaders in sustainability, renewable energies and innovative technologies.
We aim to have 4,500 MW of renewables-based generation capacities in operation or under construction by 2014. By 2025, RWE intends to base 30 per cent of its power station capacity on renewable energies. Important steps have already been taken. We are, of course, especially strong in our home market in Germany, followed by the United Kingdom, Spain, Poland, Italy and the Netherlands.

RWE Innogy has operated onshore wind farms for over ten years. Their present capacity totals about 1,424 megawatts[1]. While focusing on organic growth, our key markets for onshore wind are the UK, the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, France, Italy and Central Eastern Europe.

With Rhyl Flats and North Hoyle, we operate two of the largest offshore wind farms in the UK. We are currently building the offshore wind Nordsee Ost off the German coast and the 576 meagawatts wind farm Gwynt y Môr will be constructed off the Welsh coast. By using our own installation vessels, we are closing an important bottleneck in the construction of offshore wind farms.

We aim to achieve a fourfold increase in our production of electricity and heat from wood by 2013, taking us to a total capacity of 400 MW electrical (MWelel).

RWE is looking forward and pushing ahead with the development of new technologies. In doing so, we do not only confine ourselves to application-driven research and development. As part of its venture capital activities, RWE Innogy supports innovative companies in their creation or growth phase by providing initial funding for a limited period of time.
